October 2020 Update – Best Foot Forward Leg Club Re-Opening

What to expect

We are really pleased to be able to re-open our Leg Club. We will be following government guidelines to ensure we are always prioritising safety. Due to this guidance Leg Club will be a little different. Below are some answers to frequently asked questions:

What Covid measures are in place?

For your safety we will be operating a one-way system, seating will maintain a 2m distance, staff will be wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Please wear a mask and use the handgel provided on entering. Our volunteers will be present to help you follow our guidance.

Can I Just turn up as usual?

No, please don’t just turn up. Appointments must be booked to ensure we maintain social distancing.

Can I come along to socialise?

Unfortunately at present we will not be able to accommodate members for social activities. There is a limit on the number of people we can have in the venue and at present we are prioritising those with active wounds.  We hope to resume these activities as soon as it is safe to do so.

Can I bring my friend/relative?

We ask where possible for any friends/relatives to wait in the car. If this is not possible please let us know in advance so we can ensure we do not exceed permitted numbers.

What if I have an appointment and I am unwell?

Please do not attend if you have a temperature, new continuous dry cough or loss/change of sense of taste or smell. Please follow the government guidance if you have any Coronavirus symptoms. Contact the surgery to speak to a member of the Leg Club team regarding your wound care if you are unwell and unable to attend your appointment.

Will I be able to get a tea/coffee?

At present we will not be serving tea and coffee but hope to be able to offer this soon. You may bring your own drink with you in a sealed bottle.

Why have I been offered an appointment but my friend hasn’t?

We have tried to ensure we prioritise care and follow government guidance.  As we re-open we will constantly be reviewing our processes to ensure we can accommodate as many members needing face to face review as possible.

Staff and volunteers will continue to support Leg Club Members through phone calls.   Please join our Best Foot Forward Leg club Facebook page!

If you have any questions please email [email protected] or leave a message at reception for Leg club staff.

WHEN: Every Thursday between 9am – 12pm

WHERE: The Upton Social Club, Courtneys Yard, Poole Road, Upton, BH16 5HX

The Best Foot Forward Leg Club in Poole, Dorset, opened in October 2015. Since then it has become a ‘hub’ of activity for the Local Community, providing evidenced-based,  effective clinical care and companionship for many people.

When the Leg Club first opened there were many patients of The Adam Practice with long term, hard to heal lower leg ulcers and related problems. Prior to attending the Leg Club, their only choice was to attend their local surgery for their treatment, or be treated in their own homes by the District Nurse Team if they had mobility problems. This often lead to isolation and loneliness, leaving patients with a feeling of poor self esteem and low mood.

With joint support from both the Leg Club Nursing and Volunteer teams, over time such members have been able to ‘reignite’ their self esteem, take control of their own care within the encouraging environment.
