You will spend some of the clinic with other patients. The group will discuss key topics around diabetes and the questions that come up.
You will also have time with the diabetes nurse to discuss your own results and anything specific to you. Personal matters can still be discussed privately after the group part of the clinic.
The clinic gives more time than a usual appointment for questions and discussion. Someone else may ask a question you have been wondering about, or raise something you had not thought to ask.
Questions may be about cholesterol, kidneys, medication, food, exercise or other parts of living with diabetes. Patients may also share practical experiences, such as recipes or ways they have found to stay active.
No. If you are nervous or would rather listen at first, that is fine. You can take part as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.
You do not need to arrive with questions prepared. If there is something you have already wondered about, the clinic is a good place to ask. If not, you may still find that somebody else raises something useful.
The group clinic does not replace individual care. It adds more time to talk things through, hear other questions and learn from people who are also living with diabetes.
The aim is for you to leave understanding your diabetes better, knowing more about what you can do day to day and feeling more confident about managing it.
