Vision Statement

The Adam Practice strives to provide high quality, readily accessible medical and preventative health care within a well organised, efficient, up-to-date, friendly and caring environment. This will be achieved by making the best possible use of the resources conferred and to take a proactive role with new health care strategies and responding positively to change.

Whilst achieving the above the Practice also intends to ensure the professional and personal growth of all partners and staff, ensuring real job satisfaction and the protection of time for staff welfare, and to maintain financial security.

About Us

As one of the largest GP Practices on the South Coast, the Adam Practice strives to provide high quality, readily accessible medical and preventative health care within a well organised, efficient, up-to-date, friendly and caring environment. This is achieved by making the best possible use of its resources and by taking a proactive role with new health care strategies.

We have designed this website to help you get the most out of our surgeries by informing you of the services we offer and enabling you to access all the relevant healthcare information and advice you may need.

A little history…
The Adam Practice was established in 1946 by Dr Wilson Adam who began the practice from premises in the High Street, Poole. Later on he merged with another practice in Poole town centre and moved to slightly larger premises.

As the Practice capitation increased premises behind the chemist shop in Hamworthy were secured and a second surgery opened providing surgeries in both Poole town centre and Hamworthy.

A third surgery was later developed in Upton and the partnership and patient base increased. At this time a shuttle bus service was created by the Practice for those patients who lived in Lytchett Matravers to enable them to gain access to the practice GPs at Upton.

In the 1970s the Practice expanded yet further. The surgery in Hamworthy moved from its rented premises behind the Chemist to a purpose built surgery to accommodate the growing number of patients and services supplied by the practice.

In the late 1980s the partnership bought a property in the High Street in Lytchett Matravers and converted it into the fourth Adam Practice surgery for the patients in the village.

Since the early 1940s the Practice has grown from a single handed business into a 16 partner partnership with four surgeries and multiple services on offer to over 31,000 patients.
