Chest Infections: Red Flags

Key Information:

  • Know the Signs: While most chest infections resolve with rest, it is important to recognise specific symptoms that indicate you need medical attention.
  • Severe Symptoms: High fever, rapid heartbeat, sharp chest pain, or coughing up blood are clear indicators that you should seek advice.
  • Changes in Behaviour: Sudden confusion, disorientation, or drowsiness are serious red flags.
  • Breathing Difficulties: If you are becoming very breathless or struggling to speak in full sentences, you need urgent assessment.
  • At-Risk Groups: Patients with long-term conditions (such as COPD, heart disease, or immune system issues) should contact us sooner rather than later.

What Happens Next?

If you recognise any of the warning signs mentioned in the video, or if you are feeling very unwell, do not wait for the condition to improve on its own. Please contact our team immediately so we can assess your condition and ensure you receive the correct treatment.
