  • What is RSV?: Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common winter virus. While it usually causes mild coughs and colds in healthy adults, it can cause severe lung infections like bronchiolitis and pneumonia in vulnerable groups.

Who Needs the Vaccine?

There are two distinct groups invited for this vaccine, but for two very different reasons:

  1. Adults Aged 75 to 79
    • The Goal: To protect you.
    • The Reason: As we get older, our immune system becomes less able to fight off viruses. This vaccine gives you direct protection and significantly reduces your risk of hospitalisation from severe lung infections.
  2. Pregnant People
    • The Goal: To protect your baby.
    • The Reason: By getting the vaccine during pregnancy, your body creates protective antibodies. These are passed to your baby, giving them crucial protection against RSV during their first few months of life when they are most vulnerable.
