Key Information

  • Even if your asthma feels okay, the practice may ask you to attend a review because your questionnaire, flare-up history or prescription record suggests something is worth understanding better.
  • Being invited does not necessarily mean something is wrong. The appointment helps the team understand what is actually happening for you.
  • At the review, the team will look at your treatment and check your inhaler technique before deciding with you whether anything needs to change.
  • Bring all the inhalers you are currently using and, if you use a spacer, bring that too.

Why Do I Need a Review If My Asthma Feels Okay?

How your asthma feels is only one part of the picture. The team also looks at things such as flare-ups and what your prescription record shows about your inhalers.

Sometimes, when that information is considered together, there is something worth reviewing. This does not necessarily mean something is wrong.

What Might the Team Need to Understand?

There can be different reasons for asking you to come in. You may be needing an inhaler more often, your current treatment may not be working as well as it could, your treatment may need updating from older separate inhalers to a newer combination inhaler, or there may be something about how you use your inhaler that the team can help with.

The right next step depends on what is actually happening for you.

What Happens at the Appointment?

The appointment lets the team put what your record shows together with what your asthma has been like for you.

Your treatment will be reviewed and your inhaler technique will be checked. You and the team can then decide together whether anything needs to change.

What Should I Bring?

Bring all the inhalers you are currently using.

If you use a spacer, bring that with you too.
